Where to Stay Surrounded by Lavender Fields in Provence, France
Visiting the lavender fields of Provence is an experience you’ll want to savour. No matter how many times I return, the landscape still manages to cast its spell, with an intoxicating combination of buds in bloom, a heady scent, and rustic stone buildings peppering the purple landscape. Every June and July, I find myself drawn back to those familiar roads, discovering new fields, revisiting old favourites, and always, always wishing I could stay a little longer.
Which is exactly why I’ve put together this collection of places where you can do just that. These aren’t random picks from a search engine – most are properties I’ve either visited or come to know through years of photographing and writing about lavender country. Some sit on their own lavender fields, others offer front-row views, and a few provide that rare combination of luxury and authenticity that makes Provence so special.
Imagine sipping your morning coffee on a terrace overlooking endless rows of purple or watching the golden hour light dance across the fields from your bedroom window. The beauty of staying surrounded by lavender is that you’re there for the best light – early morning when the fields glow softly, and late evening when the hoards pack up and head off to their dinner reservations – leaving you with the landscape to yourself.
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a solo photography trip, these properties offer something beyond just a place to sleep. They’re gateways to experiencing Provence’s most iconic landscape on your own terms, at your own pace, with the luxury of time that day-trippers rarely have.
Understanding Provence’s Lavender Regions
Before I suggest some beautiful places to stay among the fields, it’s worth taking a minute to understand the three main lavender regions in Provence, as each offers a distinctly unique experience.
The Luberon lavender fields are, in my opinion, the most charming, as they artfully frame country farmhouses, perched villages, ancient stone bories, and mills. The landscape here is more intimate and varied, with lavender appearing in smaller pockets among vineyards, olive groves and ochre cliffs.
The Valensole Plateau is where you’ll find those iconic, expansive rolling fields that seem to stretch to the horizon. This is lavender on a grand scale, with endless rows interrupted only by the occasional stone hut or solitary tree. It’s the most photographed lavender region for good reason.
The Sault area sits higher in elevation, which means the lavender blooms later here (typically mid-July through to early August). The landscape is more rugged and rural, with lavender fields tightly woven into the agricultural tapestry of wheat fields, forests, and hilltop villages.

Luberon Lavender Stays
The Luberon is my favourite area for combining lavender with village hopping, brocante browsing, wine tasting, and walking & cycling excursions. Here, you’re never far from a cafe terrace, a spectacular view, or a historic site – yet you can still find yourself completely immersed in nature and tranquillity.
Domaine des Andéols

This 32-hectare estate near Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt brings together 11 independent villas (some with private pools) and eight contemporary Nature Suites, all scattered across grounds planted with cypress trees, vineyards, fruit orchards, olive groves, lavender fields and herb gardens. Created by Patrizia and Olivier Massart, each accommodation is uniquely designed and artfully presented.
The standout for lavender lovers? The Lavender Nature Suite, which offers views directly over the lavender fields. The estate also features two outdoor swimming pools, two restaurants, a hammam, and access to the quieter side of the Luberon Valley.
Les Murets, Gordes

This stunning seven-acre property near Gordes sits on its own lavender fields, offering one of the most authentic lavender experiences in the Luberon. The estate accommodates up to 12 guests and features a pool, tennis court, and panoramic views across the valley. Being just minutes from Gordes and the famous Senanque Abbey means you’re positioned perfectly to explore the region’s most iconic lavender sites.
The property’s own lavender fields mean you can wander through purple rows before breakfast, and capture the golden glow of sunset over dessert. It’s ideal for families or groups wanting a luxurious base while being surrounded by nature.
Capelongue Hotel & Spa

Perhaps the most luxurious option in the Luberon, Capelongue stands like a picturesque hamlet amid cypress trees and lavender fields, just outside the village of Bonnieux. The expansive estate blends 17th and 18th-century architecture with contemporary elegance, surrounded by landscaped gardens bursting with jasmine and earthy herbs. The swimming pools (there are two) are a highlight, as is the decadent wellness spa that offers lavender-infused treatments.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in lavender fields here, both on and off-site, as Bonnieux has a high concentration of farms and distilleries in its surroundings.
Domaine Château du Bois
I was invited to tour Château du Bois many years ago and was completely blown away – not just by the natural beauty of the place, but by the genuine passion of the family who’ve been cultivating lavender here for five generations (you can read about my experience here). So I was absolutely delighted to discover they’ve since expanded to accommodate overnight guests, curating a unique lavender experience in Provence.
Perched at 1100m on the Monts de Vaucluse, Chateau du Bois sprawls across 400 hectares of preserved nature, including 110 hectares of organic lavender fields. The property – a 17th-century estate, offers both luxury B&B rooms, and full private rental (sleeping up to 20 guests). The amenities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, tennis court, gym, petanque court, electric bikes to explore the lavender-laced countryside… The list is endless. If you’re looking for a discreet place to stay, with unlimited access to lavender fields, this is it.
Le Mas de Garrigon

Recently renovated, Le Mas de Garrigon is set within a three-hectare estate encompassing rows of lavender, olive groves, and fragrant herbs. The 3-star hotel offers affordable luxury for those who want an intimate setting but don’t need an entire home. All rooms come with complimentary access to the on-site spa, which features an outdoor jacuzzi and private hammam.
Situated near Roussillon, one of France’s officially most beautiful villages, you’ll be able to explore the colourful streets, art galleries, and ochre trail with ease.
Mas near Goult with Lavender Fields
Set in a private estate within the Luberon’s “golden triangle”, this newly renovated Mas comes with two lavender fields, multiple terraces, and wide-open views towards Gordes. Sleeping 10 guests across five large, air-conditioned ensuite bedrooms (including an independent gite for anyone who needs a little extra breathing room), it’s a house designed for comfort.
Spend sleepy mornings out exploring, and when the sun gets too fierce, retreat to the poolside with your holiday read. The village of Goult is just minutes away for market mornings and bakery runs, while the headline villages – Gordes, Roussillon, Ménerbes, and Bonnieux are all within easy reach for day trips and restaurants. Wine tastings, lavender fields and more also lie just beyond the property’s borders.

Practical Tips for Staying Among the Lavender Fields
Now that you’ve found your dream lavender accommodation, here are some essential tips to help you make the most of your stay.
Timing is Everything
The lavender bloom period is fleeting, typically from mid-June to mid-July in the Luberon and Valensole, and from mid-July to early August in Sault (consult our guide for more exact timings). Plan your stay during peak bloom for the full experience.
Book Early
Properties among the lavender fields are highly sought after during peak blooming season. So you’ll need to book as far in advance as possible to be in with a chance of securing your dream accommodation – especially at the more boutique properties.
Hire a Car
These properties are away from reliable and frequent public transportation, and services such as Uber can be hard to book in the remote villages – especially during peak times. Hiring a car will allow you the best flexibility for exploring the fields, villages, and towns of Provence, which is why I always strongly recommend it for visitors.
Explore Beyond the Fields
While lavender may be the star attraction that lured you to Provence, don’t miss the chance to discover the region’s other treasures. Provence offers enchanting villages, vineyards, ochre mines, hiking trails, and so much more! See the following articles for inspiration:

Finally, do remember that the fields change year on year, and lavender could be replaced by wheat, sunflowers, or left to rest for a year. The beauty of staying in the region is that you can adapt your plans, discover hidden fields, and follow local recommendations to find the purple rows currently at their peak.
Whether you choose the picturesque Luberon, the expansive Valensole Plateau, or the rustic Sault region, staying surrounded by lavender fields offers an immersive experience that goes far beyond a day trip. You’ll live in rhythm with the landscape, and gain a deeper understanding of why this therapeutic flower has captivated hearts for centuries.
