There’s plenty to do for history buffs and culture vultures when you’re not soaking up the sun at Livadia Beach. Taxis and public transport are readily available to get you around the island, and boat tours depart from the port to whisk you away to nearby islands. 

Where to Stay in Parikia:
KOKOON is a small hotel near the port area for easy day-tripping. You’ll love the paired-back, whitewashed style, and the central shady courtyard.

PARIKIA

Parikia town offers a little bit of everything fabulous as the lively capital of Paros. Take leisurely strolls among white Cycladic architecture to historical sites, such as the Frankish Castle ruins. See the Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, enveloped in legends of the Holy Cross. Among the maze of alleyways in the old town, pop in and out of artisan workshops and bars. 

You’ll likely take more than a few photos of the traditional windmill overlooking the port. And you’ll find lovely beaches on either side of busy marinas for ferry trips and boat tours. Choose a sunbed on the sand at Livadia and windsurf before sunset ouzo shots at oceanfront bars. Take a quick local bus ride to Parasporos Beach and Delfini Cove.

NAOUSSA 

The best places to stay in Naoussa, Paros rest within steps of stylish boutiques and chic restaurants. It’s a cosmopolitan spot, but the wrapping is wonderfully traditional. Explore stone-paved laneways and whitewashed buildings adorned with pink flowers and blue doors. Expect to fill your bags with souvenirs, and likely struggle to choose from quaint tavernas for rest stops.

SANTA MARIA

A quick drive from Naoussa, Santa Maria presents the golden sand and crystal-clear water from magazine covers. Sink into a variety of vibes here, including casual camping with fun facilities and a splash of luxury at villas within walking distance of the sand. The Santa Maria Beach Bar serves up creative cocktails day and night, along with tavernas. 

You barely have to move from your sunbed unless you’re taking a dip, kitesurfing or building sandcastles with the kids. In doing your favourite sun-soaked activities, take your pick from Santa Maria Beach and Little Santa Maria Beach. Or, find plenty of space for yourself at nearby Lageri Beach, a popular spot for naturists.

PISO LIVADI

One of the best places to stay in Paros for families, Piso Livadi is a charming village centred around a marina. From here, boat trips whisk you away for island-hopping to Naxos and beyond. Lovely restaurants line the sparkling bay on a backdrop of white buildings and moored boats. 

On top of the daily agenda is splashing in the calm, sheltered water and running along the sand with the kids, both along the port and at Logaras Beach. A more sophisticated atmosphere awaits at elegant restaurants for gourmet seafood dishes. Take a hike to Agios Georgios church or to the inland villages of Marpissa and Lefkes.

Where to Stay in Piso Livadi:
Yialos Rooms is a sweet little property offering self-contained accommodation on the beachfront. Beautifully decorated and offering private balconies, they’re ideal for singles, couples or friends.
Summer Senses Luxury Resort is a more upmarket property offering 5-star facilities and service. With several pools to enjoy, two restaurants, and two bars, you’ll never feel crowded at this spacious resort.

CHRISSI AKTI

A golden sand and sea heaven greets you at Chrissi Akti, known for its picture-perfect Golden Beach. If you’re a fan of windsurfing, Nea Chrissi Akti hosts the annual Professional Windsurfing World Cup. But, you can challenge yourself anytime with professional instructors to help you get started, along with launching into other water sports. 

Combined with Drios, which is within pleasant meandering distance, the area is dotted with some of the loveliest places to stay in Paros. Hotel swimming pools feature ocean views and Cycladic villas offer a glimpse of tradition. Simply choose a paradisiacal scene to suit your mood.

If you love island hiking, a stay in Paros means you’ll need to pack your comfy boots. The quaint fishing village of Drios is an idyllic base, with a short coastal path to Golden Beach that continues to Piso Livadi with beach stops between. Pack a picnic of local cheeses and fruit to enjoy beneath shady tamarisk trees along the way. 

The small village features a row of restaurants and low-key hotels along the promenade, where the succulent fish of the day is guaranteed. Explore rock pools scattered across the pebbly shore and dive into transparent water to cool off between meals. To work it off, try an inland hike or bike ride through the rural area of Lagada. 

Best Places to Stay in Drios:
– I loved staying at Tarsa Studios on my most recent trip to Paros – it was idyllic. The seafront apartments are clean, spacious, self-contained and feature private balconies with dreamy views!
Blue Waves Suites & Apartments are located next door to Tarsa Studios and offer a similar experience and views. The onsite restaurant, Kima, is among the best I visited on the island, and the service is impeccable.
Calme Boutique Hotel is an adults-only establishment offering a luxurious experience. Highlights include the infinity pool, restaurant serving a champagne breakfast, and free use of bikes to get around.
– For a more affordable stay, choose Nissiotiko Hotel. Also located on the waterfront, you’ll love the sea views, fresh breakfast, and flower-filled garden.

ALIKI

Flanked by beautiful beaches and centred around a photogenic port, Aliki is among the best places to go in Paros for a true fishing village experience. Dine on narrow piers that stretch out into the translucent water amid bobbing boats. To visit the islets you’ll see from your table, hop aboard boat tours and explore the coastline. 

Spend time with your book under the shady trees along Piso Aliki, where smooth pebbles drift into clear water and serenity reigns supreme. Beyond the waterfront, delve into culture at The Skorpios Folklore Museum to see miniature models crafted by artist Benetos Skiadas. 

Best Places to Stay in Aliki:
Earlier in this article we gave some suggestions of great places to stay in Aliki as a family. But if you’re travelling solo, or as a couple, there are some outstanding options also.
Angeliki Seaside Hotel is a cheap & cheerful stay in Aliki. Each double room has a private balcony, and you can’t beat the location!
Aphrodite Boutique Hotel is a family-friendly boutique hotel within a quick stroll of the beach. The Greek breakfast is a great way to start the day, and it even has a small fitness centre if you want to work it off later!
Kiano Suites are the ideal couples retreat. Located beachside, the decor reflects the high standards of this boutique accommodation.
Paros Afrodite Luxury Villas have options for small families, to larger groups of up to 15 guests! There’s a shared pool to enjoy, and you’re just a short walk from the centre of town (although getting a rental car may be preferred for this location).

PARASPOROS

Close to many of the best things to see in Paros, Parasporos is a popular beach town just outside Parikia. Stroll along vast swaths of sand lapped by tranquil water to choose a sunbed. Beach bars keep your feet in the sand for sunsets, though hotels backing the beach also deliver sweeping views from balconies and pool bars.

It’s possible to walk to petite Delfini Beach, otherwise known as Souvlia, for a change of scenery within a laid-back atmosphere. Among historical sites nearby is the Sanctuary of Asklepios, where you’ll explore evocative temple ruins overlooking the sea and Parikia. 

Where to Stay in Parasporos:
Parea Paros offers adults-only accommodation in a sophisticated setting. Relax at the pool, sipping cocktails, take a casual stroll to the beach, or spend your days tripping around the island – this hotel is ideal for all.
Anemos villa is a 1 bedroom self-contained accommodation near the beach. The villa benefits from private balconies, and a shared large pool.
– If you need a bit more space, Aqua is a 3-bedroom villa that sleeps up to 6 guests. It features a private pool with views over the bay, and BBQ facilities.
– For a luxurious experience, TERRA retreat ticks all the boxes. Four bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms cater for up to 8 guests, making it ideal for extended families or groups of friends.


Charming Inland Villages of Paros

Wrap yourself in history and tradition on backdrops of bell towers and breathtaking countryside vistas. Inland Paros villages ooze charm amid hiking trails and taverna-dotted stone laneways. 

LEFKES

Sip coffee in bougainvillaea-filled squares and photograph almost impossibly pretty alleyways as you shop for handmade souvenirs. Lefkes is arguably the best area to stay in Paros to immerse in traditional village surroundings – albeit perfectly geared up visitors. It’s located on a hilltop in the centre of the island, so prepare for spellbinding views across the country to the sea. 

Get happily lost in the maze of whitewashed streets as you step back in time. Delve into history at the 1830 Agia Triada Church adorned with photogenic bell towers. Fuel up at an array of restaurants you’ll likely fall in love with. Then, set out on the historical Byzantine hiking trail through olive groves on the way to Prodromos.

Where to Stay in Lefkes:
The Olive Mill Guest House is a charming one-bedroom hideaway in Lefkes. Featuring a private courtyard and compact, yet functional kitchen, it’s the ideal base for a worry-free stay.
Villa Stella is a rustic two-bedroom house with a swimming pool, outdoor dining area, and rural outlook.
Villa Luxury Magic View offers three bedrooms, an amazing private pool, and, as it says in the name, outstanding views. The villa is also air-conditioned and has wifi.

PRODROMOS

Find serenity among the white Cycladic cube houses and delightful chapels of Prodromos. You’ll enter the pedestrianised village via a gate with a bell tower to ‘ooh and ahh’ at stone pathways peppered with flowerpots and blue-tinged doors and windows. 

This is a place to settle in at traditional cafes to admire blooming gardens and savour local produce for lazy hours. That’s if you’re not captivated and immersed in photographing Greek village beauty. Hike around the countryside to see traditional windmills or head to the beach at nearby Piso Livadi.  

Best Places to Stay in Prodromos:
Lil Paros Luxury Suites are three thoughtfully designed one-bedroom villas situated around a large shared swimming pool. Ideally situated for walking the Byzantine trail, they also offer free private parking for convenience.

If you’re looking for where to stay on Paros with that cute-as-a-button village vibe very close to the sea, Marpissa rests on Kefalos Hill just above Piso Livadi. Whitewashed houses circle the hill and boast doors of pink, green and blue adorned with flowering vines. 

While meandering, you’ll come across gorgeous churches and squares along narrow streets kept in immaculate condition. Pop into the Nikos Perantinos Sculpture Museum to admire the celebrated artist’s statues. Close by, discover the Monastery of Agios Antonios set among castle ruins. Get your steps in by walking up and down the hill to the ocean and back. 

Best Places to Stay in Marpissa:
Accommodation in Marpissa revolves around cosy houses and lofty villas. Here are some of the best:
