Mas de Capelou – B&B in Avignon

Occupying a 17th-century Provençal farmhouse, the Mas de Capelou is a charming bed and breakfast on the outskirts of Avignon. Exposed stone walls, open fireplaces and high ceilings are a feature of the interior rooms and suites, which are surrounded by a two-hectare garden with a sparkling swimming pool. Its understated elegance combines with authenticity for a peaceful stay while being a short drive from the sights of Avignon.

The Mas de Capelou is situated on the island of Barthelasse, which is connected to the historic heart of Avignon via a bridge. Within five minutes, you can be amidst the animation of this medieval city or immersed in the tranquillity of the farmhouse and its scenic surrounds.

Cultural museums are never far away, as are the myriad restaurants upholding Avignon’s reputation as a gastronomic hub. The iconic Palais des Papes is just seven kilometres away and the Gare d’Avignon Centre is a 15-minute drive while the Avignon-Provence Airport is around 30 minutes.

A delicious continental breakfast featuring locally-sourced products and regional specialities greets guests each morning. Dine in the comfort of the interior dining room or overlooking the gardens beneath the shade canopy. Dinner can also be prepared on request (with special dietary requirements catered to) or you can take advantage of the exceptional restaurants for which Avignon is renowned.

Vegan options are available for breakfast and on request at other meal times. Please notify the owners at the time of booking.

Exuding understated elegance, the Mas de Capelou has been beautifully restored while retaining the authenticity of its farmhouse setting. The light-filled suites are attractively decorated with artworks and tiled or timber floors, with towering trees that offer plenty of privacy. The result is a refined property that offers peace and serenity while being welcoming to both couples and families.

Each of the five rooms is uniquely designed, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and all the modern comforts you’d expect, without losing the property’s authenticity. The blue-hued Boating room is ideal for two friends travelling together while the Beguin is perfect for couples with its four-poster bed. The Mantille room adds in a single bed for an additional child, with the Chapel suite offering a cosy lounge area.

The Capeline suite has been designed with families in mind, offering two separate bedrooms for parents and kids. The en-suite comes with a shower and bathroom while a private terrace overlooks the tranquil gardens.

The Mas de Capelou doesn’t offer any wheelchair-accessible rooms.

Rattan sofas and a terrace with deckchairs offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun-drenched Provençal lifestyle, with a heated outdoor pool the centrepiece in the leafy grounds. It features a shallow area for children to play, with toys available on request to keep them entertained. An interior dining space creates a retreat from the outdoors, with numerous spots to escape with a good book or a quiet moment.
